Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 2015
Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, 3rd to 6th September 2015, is held every year in the parkland grounds of the Burgley Estate. It has been held here since 1961 when the Marquess of Exeter invited the British Horse Society to hold it’s three day event at his estate and the event has since gone from strength to strength. Attendance figures, approximately 160,000, show that the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials ranks within the top 10 sporting events in the UK and it is a highly prestigious date in the sporting calendar.
Riders from all over the world attend the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, being one of only six CCI**** events in the world. Captain Mark Phillips (course designer 2005-present) won the event in 1973 and his technical design along with the terrain make the event challenging for horse and rider.
The event is held over four days and has a prize fund of £250,000 and William Fox-Pitt is Burghley’s most successful competitor, having won the title six times (1994, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2011).
Dressage is on 3rd (Thurs) and 4th (Fri) September along with (Fri) the Young Event Horse Finals and British bred stallion show. Saturday sees the cross country day and Sunday the show jumping, along with Racehorse to Riding Horse HOYS qualifier and BSPS Sports Pony Classes, to name but a few. Checkout the daily schedule here.
